A Day in Itaewon

Last Saturday, I needed to get a few things in Itaewon, the foreigner's district of Seoul. First stop, Hannam Market to get Tums, Cheetos, Gardetos, and Oreos. What a sinful and yet delightful treat!

I also took a trip to Harley Davidson right up the street. How frickin' cool to see bad-ass Korean motorcycle guys in leather and chains everywhere!

I also found "Love Love" one of the only adult stores I have seen in Korea. Among other strange delights, I also ran into a strange assortment of masks in an alley. I have to admit, Itaewon's grimy streets have grown on me a bit.

Healthy Graffiti

In a dirty, dingy hallway somewhere in Itaewon, someone is concerned that we should eat healthy foods. So here lies the cutest and healthiest wall art of all time:)

The Beautiful Side of Itaewon

I usually think Itaewon is an ugly and horrid place but a few weeks ago, Will and I went up to "Hooker Hill" and found a beautiful view of the city. This area of the city is older and has less high rise buildings. The streets are winding, gritty, and dirty and I actually kind of liked it.

Oh Itaewon, how you make me puke....

I don't know if it was the beer, the cheeseburger and fries, or the Coldstone ice cream that came after, but my day in Iteawon ended like a bad hangover. Combine said ingredients with whirlwind rides in a cab and jerky rides in a hot, stuffy subway and voila! You have Sara with a throbbing migrane headache puking on her way home in multiple KTX subway bathrooms. Thankfully, those bathrooms are like shirnes to the god of cleanliness, otherwise it could have been a much more disgusting experience. But still, how humiliating!

Today, I awoke refreshed with only a smidge of a headache left and my memories of yesterday feel kind of blacked out like they would after a night of heavy drinking. Maybe its better that way. My morning has been spent in bed with the new books I bought yesterday in Itaewon. I bought one by David Sedaris, a beat generation book, and one by the lady that wrote the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, which has actually been a pretty good read so far. I also bought some real chocolate, which has been eaten in bed all morning long. Pretty much besides the faint headache and bodyaches, I am in bliss!

Reading in bed:)

The Wolfhound Pub in Itaewon

The girls and I towards the beginning of the night. We all ordered comfort food like fish and chips, motzerella sticks, and yummy sandwiches. Gotta love Iteawon for all of the Western food!

The ladies talking with one of the soldier guys we met at the Wolfhound.

Katie, Nikki, Kelly, Lindsay, and myself later in the night, perhaps in a must more festive state of being?

Katie with her cool glasses and Nikki giving the peace baby sign.

Kelly and Katie getting silly with on of the girls we met at the Wolfhound.

Lindsay and Kelly with one of the guys sitting at our table.

Myself and one of the army guys we sat with that night. Don't get any wrong ideas, guys, I only chatted with him!!!

Me and the giant pitcher of beer!
