Pills and More Pills

In Korea, there is no such thing as a medicine section of the grocery store. One must instead go directly to the neighborhood pharmacist and ask for what they need. Either that or pay a visit to the doctor, which costs a minuscule 3,000 Won (Less than $3 USD). You then hand your script to the pharmacist and get little wax paper packets chock full of mystery pills! Weeeee! I have no clue what I am taking, but I guess they have done a fair job at combating the wicked case of Korean flu I had a few days back:)

2 Bad Things

The past few days have been overshadowed by 2 very bad things:

1. North Korea trying to start more war with South Korea.

2. Having a bone chilling, feverish flu.

Both are aweful and need to end A.S.A.P.

Thanks!

Boiling Water

I have been sick. Like super sick. Apparently I have an Upper Respiratory Infection... Like some tonsillitis and bronchitis and all that good stuff. Some sort of Asian flu that makes you feel as if your old bones are aching out of your body and every breath feels strained and rattled.

Yesterday I went to the doctor to get some medicine and boy do they every like to give you pills here! I have 7 pills I am supposed to take 3 times per day and cough syrup 4 times per day. Totally nuts!

Today, I tried to work in the morning but ended up failing miserably and ended up back home in bed getting rest. In order to beat the terrible dryness of my apartment, my mom suggested boiling pots of water. Ahhhh. Relief! The rattle in my chest is no more and I can breath with ease. It feels almost like Iowa summer in here:)

I sure hope I get better soon!

Germ Blaster

Lately, I have been working less hours which means I am far less stressed out and actually able to enjoy teaching my students. Having 12 preschoolers has actually been a bit of a blessing, as the class seems to be more structured now and the kids are all more social because they have more choices for friends. In general, I am feeling much more confident about teaching and generally have awesome days full of surprises!

Since cold season is upon us, I have been especially concerned with germs and trying to keep healthy. My sniffling, sneezing, booger-picking kids seem to be culprit #1 for sickness so I have been using hand sanitizer in class "Germ Blaster." Now, if only I could get the kids to wash their grimy hands once in a while!

So I devised a clever scheme to get the kids to use it sometimes too. The conversation goes as follows:

"Teacher, what's that?"
"This? It is called Germ Blaster."
"What are germs?"
"Germs are bad things that can make you sick. Germ Blaster kills the bad germs."
"Can I have some?"
"No, no. I don't think so."
"Pleaaaaaaase!"
"It is only for the teacher."
"Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaase!"
"OK, I guess so. Here you go!"

And there you have it! I tricked the kids into using Germ Blaster, the anti-bacterial hand sanitizer that will save us all from sickness and chicken pox! One first grader named Ed cracks me up. He is all about the germ blaster and said he wanted to kill all the germs in the classroom. When I gave him some hand sanitizer, he rubbed it on his arm, legs, face, and HAIR just to be sure all the germs were dead! Ha, ha! Then, he started rubbing the chair and the walls too so he could kill all the germs in the whole world! Pure comedy!
